    Tian’anmen，islocatedinthecenterofBeijing.Itwasfirstbuiltin1417andnamedChengtianmen.AttheendoftheMingDynasty，itwasseriouslydamagedbywar.WhenitwasrebuiltundertheQingin1651，itwasrenamedTian’anmen，andservedasthemainentrancetotheImperialCity，theadministrativeandresidentialquartersforcourtofficialsandretainers.ThesouthernsectionsoftheImperialCitywallstillstandonbothsidesoftheGate.Thetoweratthetopofthegateisnine-roomwideandfive–roomdeep.AccordingtotheBookofChanges，thetwonumbersnineandfive，whencombined，symbolizethesupremestatusofasovereign.
    DuringtheMingandQingdynasties，Tian’anmenwastheplacewherestateceremoniestookplace.Themostimportantoneofthemwastheissuingofimperialedicts，whichfollowedthesesteps:
